CULTURAL EROTICISM
RESENSITIZING, RECOLONIZING & RECONSTRUCTING OUR SEXUALITY!
By Surya Devi
The erotic is a resource within each of us that lies in a deeply female and spiritual plane, firmly rooted in the power of our unexpressed or unrecognized feeling. Of course, women so empowered are dangerous. So we are taught to separate the erotic from most vital areas of our lives other than sex. -- Audre Lorde
Immerse your self in the moment. Allow yourself to leisurely glide along the sensual spark plugs of your being, the uninterrupted curves of a smooth, lustrous fascia with infinitesimal holes imperceptible by the bare eyes. Time is not a concern, there is only eternity. With temperatures above normal, fluids secrete from the surface making the excursion of the wholeness effortless and pleasurable. The panorama brings a few welcomed bumps here and there but expect no collisions though the texture and the color may contrast from time to time. There is a horizontal entry at the pinnacle and a vertical one at the nadir where softness abounds as soon as access is permitted. Inside is wet and moist, a small fissure that beholds a perpetually saturated world, ready to translate, process and savor the many possibilities depending on what you place inside. In that perpetuity is the ebb and flow, the concurrent rhythm of penetration and reception of the pulsating merger that can be estranged at any time.
Listen!! Hear the impressions, near and far, that soft tap on your eardrums. With the audible ability of your total body and soul you take in low frequency sounds and the beat that nature emits; you take in the modulated high frequency whistles and the echolocation snaps emitted from the tiniest creatures to that which is human; your body pulsates to the acoustic signals produced by the sensual waves of life. Feel it resonate through your body, stroking your energy field with rhythms that enliven it rather then destroy it. Let them soothe your organs filling your liver with happiness, your kidneys with love, your pancreas with natural sweetness and your womb center with the creative life force!
Now close your eyes and open your mouth to tune up the strongest muscle inside of you, the landing strip whose roots go deep down into the reproductive center, slithering through the pathway of the human heart unlocking the doorway to your divine spirit. Allow your taste buds to interpret the distinct unchanged flavors of nature from salty, to tangy, to sour and sweet. There is a converging point where the experience of our senses meets; a place where they blend to make harmonious patterns and ecstatic waves, where they can be experienced as one powerful unit. That sacred meeting place is the kingdom and power of our sexual core, the orgasmic and erotic essence of our first nature.
In the beginning were the senses. And the senses spoke through the body; and the body spoke through the mind, and the mind articulated the experiences of pain and pleasure while our sexuality lingered, finding its outlet through the human experience. But for many moons and countless years our original nature has been stifled, repressed and doubted taking away our natural powers and our inherent rights as sexual beings leaving us in the darkness about who we are and who we are truly meant to be. Today, this discord has manifested in the displaced and corrupt sightings, explosive expressions and unpleasant events around our sexuality.
Eroticism has been mistaken and replaced with pornography - two diametrically opposed uses of the sexual - leaving out the f-e-e-l-i-n-g element of our existence and focusing on the “how-to” mechanism. We have lost touch with our senses and have numbed and drowned the beauty of our erotic powers – powers that’s too hot to handle, too grave to contain and that goes way beyond the human mind and doings. Yet, the power must be grounded, it must be directed and crafted to benefit and empower humans and the human experience so that we are humans…. being love and light …rather than humans doing injustice and destruction.
As a result of the mix and miss-accounts that disillusioned power (and fear) creates, the traditional African erotic spiritual and sexual rites have been omitted from history, stolen and repackaged. Ironically the very underlying driving force of this cold, driven desire to divide and conquer stems from deeply rooted psychological sexual inadequacies. While more are so accustomed to this learned behavior - so familiar with the trend following the copy cat culture of the West - that they lost contact with their own inner power. This is the destructive, viscous cycle that fuels the dark consciousness of sexuality and keeps the masses fully elevated. Only the courageous dare to step outside of the box and move into the galaxy of our sexual truth as it IS.
The complex system of Egyptian Tantra teaches other functions of sex besides pure pleasure and procreation. The release of dysfunctional energy within the body can help to keep it free from dis-ease. This function opens the higher charkas under aligned and harmonious conditions to allow a person to begin the process of enlightenment. It was believed in ancient Egypt that the orgasm was the key to eternal life, and that it was intimately connected with the chakra energy system.
In the revised version of the book Sexual Secrets: The Alchemy of Ecstasy authors Douglas and Slinger give an account of the origins of the sexual secrets and places it’s rightful crown on the throne of Africans. The sexual spirit of our African ancestors can be found in the Dogon wood sculptures (among other artifacts) and spiritual art objects such as wood statues of naked couples normally depicted seated side by side, the male holding the female, very much in the manner of the popular Shiva and Parvati images of Hindu tradition.
Tantra sexuality does not derive from the Vedic Sanskrit nor from Hinduism as popular European culture has packaged and spread. It is said that the teachings of Tantra originate from the pre-Vedic Aboriginal tribal people, the mother goddess, and matriarchal societies of Africa before she was split and divided. The sexual secrets and teachings come from a culture run by women with recent archaeological discoveries of large wooden squatting female figure (now known as the squatting matriarchal figure) scientifically dated to be over 4400 years old.)
The secrets to our sexuality are held by women and always have been. The 21st century brings about the era of the Black Goddess Rising moving us back down to our roots and honoring women as the carrier of life; taking us where her wombs hold the secrets and the mysteries of life unlike our counter part – the male who puts it in action. We are moving back to the female energies, the feminine powers embodied by all. It is disturbing today to see many so-called masters of the patriarchal lineage exploit women and rob them of their energies. Due to patriarchal dominance around sexuality women are seeking outside themselves ways and answers in which they themselves have forgotten they contain and carry.
It’s time to reconstruct, resensitize and recolonize our sexuality as people of African descent. There is so much beauty and peace in upholding and honoring our first nature as sexual beings and in reclaiming Africa as the womb of creation. The cultural beauty of eroticism is expressed through our erotic spirit penetrating everything we do, coloring our souls, feeding our hearts and shaping the sensual languages of our inner world into the outer manifestation of Cultural Eroticism.
